Manufacturing

Where do your French White Oak products come from and how are they made?
Our French White Oak products are directly sourced from forests in Belgium and France. We work with directly land owners and send our inspectors to the forest to hand select every log prior to crafting it into a Board Brokers floor. From there, they are hand finished in our state-of-the art processing facilities. Our craftsmen specialize in techniques that include wire brushing, hand pulled flame treatment, fuming, bleed work, rocking, and carbonization to create the distinctive looks of each of our collections. All of our engineered products begin with a quality birch base, and we consciously select finishing products that are low impact on our environment

Where do your bamboo products come from and how are they made?
We work directly with farmers in Southern China who supply our Hairy Bamboo, which is one of the strongest and most dense bamboos available, and has a sustainable 5-year growth cycle. Our very own NWFA Certified inspectors thoroughly examine the bamboo to ensure our customers receive only the highest quality product. All of our bamboo floors are hot glue pressed with an expandable, eco-friendly adhesive that is E-1 rated and CARB II compliant, and finished with 7 coats of aluminum oxide for an excellent protective finish.

What is Fuming/ Smoking?
Fuming or smoking is a traditional process for enriching the color of hardwood floors in which the wood’s naturally occurring tannins are oxidized with ammonia. Unlike staining, which only changes the color of the surface of the wood, fuming or smoking allows the color to penetrate deep into the board. The benefit is that even if you were to scratch the floor it would maintain its color as opposed to staining which would show the untreated wood underneath.
